Who we are
The Huffman Car Wash was originally opened in 1939 as a gas station by Harold Huffman. When deciding where to open his gas station, Harold chose the city of Dixon over Freeport. His gas station was what is now “Huffy's Gas Station”, and they have kept the "Huffy's" name even after being sold. It wasn't until 1968 that it became a car wash and was moved across the street to where Kahleel's is now. When Lyle Huffman came back from the army, he took over for his father because he had a great talent for fixing the equipment and running the business more than his other siblings, Graham and Bruce Huffman.
In 1983, the car wash's most valuable employee, Joe Rodriguez, started his job and has made a great reputation for himself as everyone's favorite car washer. The car wash would never run without him, as he handles all the daily interactions and keeps up his goofy, personable nature for everyone around him.
A year later in the spring of 1984, the car wash picked up shop and moved down the road to where it is today and has continued business ever since.
In June of 2022, we lost our beloved Lyle Huffman to a fight with cancer. While he was too sick to work, his son, Brad Huffman, began to start taking over tasks with Joe and eventually after Lyle passed, Brad and Joe took over running the beloved car wash to continue the Huffman legacy. They continue to make improvements and run a thriving car wash to tailor to any customers needs or wants today.
Why us?
The Huffman Car Wash helps the community in many ways. We provide many young people with jobs within our community. We also try to be generous with donations to organizations like the Dixon High School Athletic Boosters, the Dixon High School Band, Dixon Municipal Band, and many others. The car wash also participated in the 2024 Petunia Festival Parade furthering our community involvement and spreading our positive attitude and business with all that were present that day.
Helping the community and giving opportunities to as many as possible has always been a clear motive for us ever since we opened in 1968 and will continue to be for as long as the family business lives on. The car wash provides premium washes for every customer, and ever since Brad Huffman took over, he has been steadfast towards making even more improvements to better serve our customers. Helping and supporting our loyal customers is an important part of the business and helps to make it what it is to the community.
